Truth
Daniel said of God in the 7th chapter of his book in the bible:
vs 9: as I looked, thrones were set in place, and the ANCIENT OF DAYS took his seat. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze. 10: a river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him, ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened. ...vs 13 In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the ANCIENT OF DAYS and was led to his presence. 14: He was given authority, glory and sovereign power, all the peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
Volumes of interpretation and analysis could be written about these few scriptures. I am going to tell you what they mean to me today.
Daniel's vision was clearly a courtroom-type scene. The fact that the Ancient of Days took his seat is beyond comprehension and the thought of books being opened stirs my soul with awe and reverence. If you know anything about God, you know that he is omniscient and has existed for all eternity. There was no beginning and there will be no end. He is and always will be. The title, The Ancient of Days, portrays this in a beautiful and exacting way.
Not only has God always existed but He knows everything. Nothing has ever been hidden from him and He is not limited by a human brain which can forget. All is laid bare before Him. While this can be a frightening thought, it can also bring much comfort and I'm about to tell you why.
I've been watching bits and pieces of the Casey Anthony trial. The whole thing is incredibly upsetting. Besides the horrendous fact that a innocent child was murdered, there is the circus of the our fine judicial system at work. Defense attorneys asking wildly derogatory questions. The defendant sitting stone-faced while her father weeps on the stand while answering questions about the day they received conformation that his granddaughter's remains had been found. Madness. It's left me wondering where the humanity is. What the heck is going on?
Rodney and I have also endured some untruths about our character lately. We've had to watch someone we love dearly be hurt because of lies. It is incredibly unsettling to be powerless to the lies of others. Arguing or retaliating in any way is not an option for us, so we have to choose to live in truth and depend on God to work things out.
So, having said that, I believe in God as the keeper of truths and the omniscient knower of every hurtful lie. He knows...
Every mother who has ever had to live through searching for her missing child and never know what really happened.
Every malicious rumor that has ever been spread through high-school halls.
Every lie whispered in the ear of an innocent child to benefit a narcissistic parent's agenda.
Every father who has wept bitterly because his child was taken from him.
Every ugly word spoken to cut the heart.
Every rapist who disappears into the night leaving his victim to live a life of fear and shame.
Every baby who was never even born.
Every mysterious disappearance.
Every abused child.
Every starved animal.
Every hateful gesture.
Every underhanded business deal.
Every drug smuggled.
Every cheek slapped.
Every evil thought.
I know I'm risking sounding pious but, I need to know that I know that I KNOW that God knows. Even when nothing makes sense. Even when I'm powerless to fix anything. Even when I'm hoping that it really is all going to be ok. I need to know that the truth is in the hands of the Almighty. He said that He will never leave me nor forsake me. He said He knows every sparrow that falls and every hair on my head. Such amazing comfort comes from this.
So if, in this life, murderers get off scot-free, dollars are made by evil ways, children are lied to and never learn the truth, mothers never find their babies, and victims live their lives in fear, there will come a day when the Ancient of Days will take His seat and all will be revealed. Every wrong will be made right and only the truth will remain. And you know what they say about the truth, it's gonna set us free.
This blessed me greatly Jennifer! VERY well thought out and written. Thank you.
